Fox news was reporting on a “very unusual problem” in the Miami Beach area. It appears that Miami is running out of sand! This, of course, is threatening the tourist industry as well as an important buffer against hurricane damage.
Amazingly, they did it without mentioning the cause of this: climate change. Now, Fox News is a major driving force behind the global warming denial. Global warming, and the fact that it is, to a large extent, man-made, is accepted by most of the world’s scientists. Fox News, acting like it does, is doing a serious disservice to their listening audience by ignoring, or denying it.
Speaking about dishonesty, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is running for re-election in Kentucky. His opponent is Alison Lundergan Grimes, a Democrat. Now, Kentucky has a large percentage of female voters and right now, he is running far behind his opponent, so he had better show that he “gets it”. He was a supporter of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in 1991. But that was 22 years ago. He is currently touting his support of women’s issues by pointing out his support of the VAWA. Interesting. The congressional record says that he voted against the act in 1994, 2012, and 2013. He didn’t even support the watered-down GOP alternative in 2012. He must have gone into shock when he realized that he might have done something good for his constituents in 1991, and vowed that would never happen again.
Lately, in his campaigning, he has not been taking questions from women. By the way, he also voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Act ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilly_Ledbetter_Fair_Pay_Act_of_2009) and the Paycheck Fairness Act ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paycheck_Fairness_Act ). When someone finally pointed out in a public forum that his campaign literature might be slightly dishonest, he responded that he had sought “a stronger version”. On another occasion he claimed that the VAWA could rob Americans of their constitutional rights. He never clarified what rights those were. All five of the female Republican senators voted for VAWA, so, apparently they felt that women could be trusted with their rights, and the constitution would still be safe.
Any Kentucky woman who would vote for him needs to get her head examined. But, of course, he has been doing everything possible to make sure that it would be very costly to get ANYTHING examined.
